Book three—more like three couples to follow in one story! After spending the previous books with each couple individually, I really enjoyed how this one wove their perspectives together.
I’ll say it proudly: the Saga and Kass arc is by far my favorite. Their dynamic has come a long way. Even though things didn’t start off smoothly between them, Kass is clearly putting in real effort for Saga’s sake. Saga’s training journey also takes the spotlight here. It’s not so much about fighting or learning new skills, but more about her becoming comfortable with herself and stepping into her new roles.
That said, things did seem to fall into place for Saga a bit too easily at times. Maybe I’m just too used to authors torturing their characters before giving them a win, but a few more obstacles would’ve made her growth feel sharper.
Also, full disclosure: I accidentally skipped Hekla’s novella and didn’t realize it until now. That story actually covers the third couple featured here, so I’d definitely recommend reading that one first for the full picture.
I found Dawn of the North to be a deeply satisfying continuation of the series, wrapping up enough threads to feel complete without relying on a cruel cliffhanger. There is clearly more to come, but it ends in a place that feels earned, and I am content to wait for the next chapter.
