Man, I hate introductions. So much so that I simply will skip it this time around. Go me. That’s called self-care.
Recently, I’ve been voraciously reading. I had had a goal at the beginning of the year to read at least 15 physical books, so I could keep justifying book purchases. As of today, I have 10 physical books completed for 2024, out of 40 total completed reads. The other 30 were off of my kindle, which is great because I love my kindle. But that didn’t quite hit the goal.
I do want to note, however, that I have started several other physical books, they just happen to be abandoned. It’s hard to select physical books lately, as I do a lot of my reading before I fall asleep. Unfortunately, technology hasn’t given me heightened night time vision yet. All this to say, I just prefer dark mode on my kindle, which does not aid itself to my enjoyment of bringing new books into my home.
Earlier on this week, I finished Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands, which was absolutely lovely. I can’t help but shake my head at how absurd Wendell can be, but of course, so is Emily. That’s why we love them. I plan on writing up a review at some point this week.
I had also treated myself to a trip to the bookstore, which yes, the irony doesn’t escape me. I brought home The Courting of Bristol Keats, This Is How You Lose the Time War, and Voyage of the Damned. Voyage of the Damned was the reason I went up there. It was half off online (which, I had to point out, as my Barnes and Noble doesn’t just, automatically match their own website prices?? Strange), so I put a copy on hold as a reason to leave the house and move my legs. I had almost picked up Gideon the Ninth as well, but I checked quickly online and it was on Kindle Unlimited.
I ended up flying at breakneck speeds through This is How You Lose the Time War. What an absolutely exquisite read. I’ve already started drafting my review for that one.
Lastly, I started on Bloodguard recently. I have… many thoughts. But I’m also downright angry at the novel at the moment. I will save that rant for another post so I don’t delay to terribly long. I will, however, wrap up here.
Thank you for sharing your time with me. <3
Cheers, Lexi
